Police called to exorcism scene, 3-yr-old abused, traumatized

I was appalled and slightly frightened last night when I first read this news story about a disturbing police call in Phoenix, Arizona. Police arrived at the home of Ronald Marquez, 49, after receiving a call from a concerned relative regarding attempts to perform exorcisms.

Upon arrival, officers heard screaming from inside the home and attempted to enter but a bed had been pushed against the wall. Making room enough for one officer to enter, what was discovered was truly bizarre and horrific. A bloodied three year old girl was being choked by Marquez in an effort to "release evil spirits" from the young girl who was crying in pain and gasping for air. Marquez's wife and 19 year old daughter (the mother of the little girl) were also in the room chanting something that sounded religious in nature. The 19 year-old mother was also naked and bloody.Officers were able to struggle the young girl away from Marquez and were forced to subdue him with multiple stun guns and later, Marquez died.

The relative who made the initial call to police claimed that an exorcism was attempted earlier last week as well. If you know a person who appears to be a complete and utter lunatic who has young children living with them, why not call someone to ensure the safety of that child? Get to know the signs of strange things going on. Read up on cults, and cult behavior, be educated. Hint: when a man even suggests performing an exorcism on a child, time to make the call. Instead, this poor little girl is traumatized for life, will probably never be able to trust a man again, and will require life-long psychological counseling. Of course, I believe that God transform lives and in the ultimate healing power of the Holy Spirit, but its because of stories like this that people ask me, "Why did He let this happen?" and "Where was God for this little girl?" Those are honest and tough questions.

I believe God was there, weeping and grieving for everyone in that room - especially this little girl. I also believe that He will continue to be with her, helping to prepare a path that will help draw her closer to Him and know that this was not what He wanted for her at all.

What kinds of emotions and questions does this story raise for you?
