Am I the only one who understands what this guy is doing? Moussaoui WANTS to die a martyrs death. This fate, in his religion, holds a promise of some enormous amount of virgins waiting for him when he reaches heaven. If he is 'captured' by us, and we kill him, we'll assure him that hope. The hope that he may finally acheive the martyrdom that he's dreamt of since childhood.
Solution: Do Not Sentence this man to death. Give him life in prison, and do everything we can to be sure he dies of old age or other such natural causes. Anything that robs him of the hope he so desparately strived to rob from innocent women and children.
In the words of the Soup Nazi, "No virgins for you, Moussaoui!"
