Customer service must have been costing Walmart too much money. I have to assume that in order to keep the prices so low at this gigantic retailer, they must keep all costs and expenses to a minimal wherever possible. With that in mind, customer service had to be costing them the most - because they've cut all customer service concepts from every Walmart I've ever been to.
Just this morning I rushed into my local demonic Walmart store and was greeted by the usual old person who stands by the door handing out stickers to children and smiles to people too depressed to actually have a reason or need to come into this store (mine is becuase my son's special formula at$23.52 per can is still $3 cheaper here) to smile back. I found my item with great speed and checked out all within 7 minutes. Aproaching the exit, I notice the friendly old person standing between me and the door. Can she not tell I am walking with great force and determination? I have a reciept clenched in my fist and a single can of formula dangling inside a propaganda covered bag in my other.
"Can I take a look at your reciept?" said Old Lady.
What!? I couldn't believe it. This isn't Costco, okay! I pay good money for my Costco membership and thereby have to follow their rules regulations to keep that membership. One of them being stopped at the door to verify the reciept. (Actually, my work gives me my membership for free, but I digress.) What right does Walmart have to automatically assume I'm planning on stealing something? She didn't even look in the bag; just the paper. I could've easily have stuck 5 Kit-Kats in that bag and she wouldnt have even seen.
I'm so frusterated just typing about this that I can't even remember how I was going to wrap this all up. I guess the point is this :
If you want everything you need in your life to be available in one place, and you want that place to have the lowest possible prices, then you should also expect that place to spend no resources on Customer Service. Walmart knows why you're there, and they know it's not becuase of your pleasant experiance. It's because of the low price, and that's the point.
