Last week the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled to allow gay marriage by finding that the legislature must offer same-sex couples some form of marriage or civil union. Many are speculating that this issue will impact next week's election. Why? As a Christian, I have mixed emotions and opinions on the subject. As an American, I have to say I'm proud that our lofty goals of providing freedom and equality to everyone are being met.
"Legislating against sin will only create more law breakers."
To those who feel that allowing gays to marry will somehow send our nation into a fiery tailspin into hell, well, not so fast. God never called upon on Christians to legislate on His behalf. Christians have been called to keep holy the sabbath day (the day of rest) but I don't see any intiatives to ban working one day out of the week. We are also commanded to forgive debts after 7 years and I know that neither political party are eager to enforce that. Legislating against sin will only create more law breakers.
If a couple of the same sex want to marry - fine, let them. Move on.
