I have to come clean on a few things here. I hope nobody minds. I'm a Christ Follower. I think that much might be clear from my page. And like many Christians, I too would like to see less X-Mas, Happy Holidays, etc and less emphasis on Santa, and trees, and candy, ad nausium. And yet, I find find myself differing in the methods being used to try to make these changes. I think, more specifically, I'm frusterated in the tone, and actions of the prominent conservatives (whoever those people are). I would like to take a moment to address my fellow brothers in Christ.
The Bush Administration sends you a card that says, Happy Holidays. Why make public statements like, "(the administration) have capitulated to the worst elements in our culture,"? Or even worse, "I threw out my White House card as soon as I got it." Non-believers are so confused by this and to be honest with you, so am I. You see, while we're supposed to be standing up for what we believe we are almost called to Love everyone. Even our enemies! When you speak out in these accusitory tones and loud ways, you and I are getting painted with the same brush. So I have to ask you to knock it off.
"If you confuse others by making a big issue over what they eat or don't eat, you're no longer a companion with them in love, are you? These, remember, are persons for whom Christ died. Would you risk sending them to hell over an item in their diet?" Romans 14:14-16
The apostle Paul wasn't meerely talking about eating out with friends. What happens if you replace eating with Christmas Card Headings? Or parenting? Or what kind of music/ movies are ok towatch?
Paul then continues his exhortation in Romans 14:21, that your primary concern should be nothing but to share the life of Jesus. Also, to not say or do things that might interfere with the free exchange of love.
Do you think it would be possible that we try acting out in love and consideration when acting of behalf of Jesus? That is, after all, what He would do.
